Le Sauveur

Le Sauveur

Starting at:

(The Savior) 1971. 89 minutes. Color. French language, with English subtitles. Image quality: very good. This little-known film is one of the hidden gems of the early 70s. Set in 1943 in rural France, the story is centered on Nanette, a 14 year old peasant girl, from a family of Pétain supporters. One day, young Nanette finds a slightly injured young man named Claude in the woods. He claims to be an Englishman, sent there to organize resistance to the Nazis, and Nanette hides him in her family's attic. Day after day, she brings him food and cares for him. It does not take long before she falls in love with him and discovers the ecstasy of physical love. But after she has helped Claude to come into contact with the local resistance fighters, he disappears. Later, Nanette will learn the terrible truth about Claude. Eighteen year old Muriel Catalá is terrific as Nanette, and has a lot of fully nude screen time, as does her older male costar Horst Buchholz, who plays Claude. Highly recommended! Ultra-rare English subtitled version.

Contains nudity.
