Loosely based upon Pierre Louys' turn-of-the-century novel "Les Chansons de Bilitis", this '70s cult classic dreamily portrays a young schoolgirl's awakening to love. Awkward adolescent Bilitis spends her summer vacation at the home of a family friend, Melissa. One night, she witnesses her friend and her husband making love, and begins to develop her own desires. Melissa encourages Bilitis to experience love for herself with a handsome young photographer named Lucas. When Lucas tries to make love to Bilitis, she  panics and rebuffs him. Confused and upset, she runs to Melissa for some comforting hugs and kisses. Their sisterly love soon turns to fiery passion, and Bilitis is initiated into the world of physical pleasure. Photographer David Hamilton's first movie has, of course, lots of girl-girl attraction and nudity, including a skinny dipping scene featuring some delightful models that Hamilton fans may recognize. Speaking of which, Melissa is played by Mona Kristensen who was one of Hamilton's main muses for several years. This is the upgraded French language with English subtitles edition, far superior to the old VHS version used as a source for all previous DVD releases.
