The Raw Ones

The Raw Ones

Starting at:

1965. Color. 68 minutes. English language. Image quality: very good. In 1957 the Supreme Court ruled that nudity in and of itself is not obscene. This decision opened the door to nudist camp documentaries, such as this one, which is actually an assemblage of three 16mm color nudist camp shorts featuring plenty of full frontal nudity (male and female) along with the usual volleyball playing, table tennis, trampolining, boating, etc. Throughout the movie, Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" plays as background music while an offscreen narrator extols the benefits of the nudist lifestyle. Although tame by today's standards, "The Raw Ones", is a ground-breaking film as it was the first film to test the Supreme Court's ruling, and the look of the old 16mm film gives it an enjoyably cool retro vibe.

Contains nudity.
