Desperate to save his sickly daughter Alyona, Anton brings her to the "Zone" - a forbidden area inhabited by radioactive mutants with special healing powers. Those who live in the Zone are distrustful of outsiders, and Anton has a hard time finding someone who can help Alyona. Another difficulty he and his daughter face is the army which patrols the Zone's border. The soldiers have orders to shoot anyone who tries to leave. The catastrophic, real-life Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster of 1986 appears to be writer/director Aleksandr Rogozhkin's main source of inspiration for this very rare and unsettling film. "Tretya Planeta" is more of a Sci-fi movie than anything else, but since we don't yet have a Science Fiction category, we're going with "Horror & Thriller". There are indeed some horrific moments of violence, and overall this is a very bleak movie, but it's compellingly strange and well made. Sixteen year old Anna Matyukhina plays Alyona, and has a couple of long nude scenes. Svetlana Mikhalchenko, who plays one of the healers, also has a nice nude noodling scene.

Contains nudity.
