1993. Color. 118 minutes. Ukrainian language, no English subtitles. Image quality: good.

The story of Fuchzhou takes place in start of the twentieth century, and is set in two different parts of the world; a small Ukrainian village , and the Florida coast in America. While it has ironic, romantic and sometimes mystic angles, the bitter aspects of emigration from the Ukraine to the United States become clearly visible. What also becomes clearly visible are a group of young American girls skinny-dipping on the beach, who freak out when a Ukrainian man appears suddenly, wading toward them in the water. PLEASE NOTE: There is some English language dialogue in a few scenes, but it is drowned out by the voice of a Ukrainian translator. As a hard-and-fast rule, Doktorfroyd's Rare Movies never posts films that haveĀ a voice-over translation on top of the original audio track instead of providing subtitles. In the case of this film however, we've made a slight exception because the overdubbing is part of the original movie, and most of the scenes featureĀ the Ukrainian-language-only audio track.

Contains nudity.
